FARMHOUSE DECOR AND ACCESSORIES TO GIVE YOUR DUCK HOUSE & CHICKEN COOP CHARM AND PERSONALITY- INCLUDING PLANTERS, FEEDERS, SIGNS, AND WEATHERVANES
Hi there! In case you missed the announcement over on Instagram– WE GOT DUCKLINGS, Y’ALL!!!
And these things are cute, cute, cute. With a fair amount of stress, stress, stress…
They’re messy and a touch smelly for sure, but I wasn’t planning on the stress of keeping these little boogers alive and healthy in their first days of life. You’ll remember I told you we were trying to get the ducks from a local breeder despite several red flags. Well those red flags were more like blaring sirens shouting at us to RUN, RUN FAST! Basically we waited 5 weeks for our ducklings to hatch and then the breeder flaked on us and disappeared from the internet. What she did with the 20 ducklings she supposedly had incubating for us is still unknown…
We were left with no other choice but to mail order the ducklings. That was a stressful process of ducklings being sold out from under our noses, ducks being delayed in the mail, and receiving one sickly one that ultimately didn’t make it. RIP Little Squinty. We still have one that is on the mend, so fingers crossed that all 7 pull through. The stress y’all, the stress.
What else is stressful? WE STILL DON’T HAVE THE DUCK HOUSE BUILT!
I’ll repeat that for emphasis…WE STILL DON’T HAVE THE DUCK HOUSE BUILT!
We’ve been working on the run for over a month now and are finally finishing that up. But the house isn’t started yet. And these little ones can only fit in my jetted bathtub circa 1999 for so long.
As usual, I spent entirely too much time and energy researching coop designs. There are too many options out there. Do I want it to be industrial farmhouse, refined rustic, cutesie cottage? Analysis paralysis. Have I mentioned WE STILL DON’T HAVE THE DUCK HOUSE BUILT?
Instead of, you know, actually getting to work building the coop, I’m going to take time to share my findings with y’all so that someone benefits from my overthinking. Here’s a roundup of chicken coop/duck house accessories for all your coop decorating needs:

WINDOW BOXES AND FLOWER PLANTERS
Let’s be honest, poultry runs aren’t the most attractive structures. A little landscaping can go a long way in changing that!
No coop is complete without signs. I went a little more understated with these selections, but a quick Google search will lead you in the “Farm Fresh Butt Nuggets” direction if that’s more your style.
These would be cute as the intended planters, but I can see these repurposed as feeders for treats, oyster shells, etc.
Let’s just lump these all into one category- the category of “hang crap up to try and disguise the 20 foot ball of wire looming in the yard”. Basket hooks, lanterns, and bells all add a lot of personality:
Scoops, egg collecting baskets, and hardware can be cute too!
Is it bad that I have a lot of duck house accessories and no duck house? Stay tuned to see which ones I settled on!
